Software |

Part of working with Geographic Information Systems is the development and configuration of software. Software can be configured or created to form sophisticated applications, tools for geoprocessing, web mapping, cartography and more. Advances with ESRI’s products have enabled some recent practitioners to subsist without venturing into the world of software development. However, to truly work with data and applications, experience with software is of substantial benefit.

• Most of my
software development efforts of late have been directed toward tools to perform
geoprocessing tasks. Several examples are available for view. AML
(Arc Macro Language) still works with an ArcInfo license and the coverage
topology model remains as a substantial alternative for manipulating
geographic data.
•To the left I have included a zipped file download of a geodatabase that was constructed to hold Land Survey monument information based on the Washington Council of County Surveyors database template. The zipped files contain file and personal geodatabase templates that support the North and South state plane zones. |
